The weekend has wrapped up with a great final day. Team Ursel never let up and curled a solid bonspiel from start to finish. The BC team proved to be a giant killer and was able to knock off the Ferbey, Martin, and Morris rinks on the final day. Congratulations to Bob and his team on such a convincing winning bonspiel.
Money raised for charity was over $15,000 over the course of the event. Thank you Victoria for your tremendous support.
Your feedback is required in order to make this annual event better every year. Although we will not be able to respond to each email, all issues will be compiled and reviewed with the organizing committee. We would appreciate your input on the 1st Annual event.
Thank you to all that made this event a success and we hope to see you again next year!

Everyone thanks all the other participants and applauds their effort to make the final eight. There were some fantastic games and in the end the little Sulz fans almost made the difference against Team Gushue.
Over $10,000 dollars has been raised for charity during this event with the hopes to add more. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this happen and a special thanks to Jim, Al, and Swany with all their ice crew in making this a great event. See you in the morning for the last 3 draws!

At the end of another great day of curling action, we see Jeff Stoughton and
Randy Ferbey teams advance to the Playoffs. The Stoughton Team played a
solid game to win against Kevin Martin. It was a close game until Martin
tried a raise take-out to try and sit two, and just missed giving Stoughton
a steal of 3 points in the 7th end. The Randy Ferbey and Brad Gushue game
was even more intense as it was all tied up after 8 ends. Gushue was on
line to make a great tap when his rock picked and allowed Nedohin to make
his last shot for 3 points. Both Martin and Gushue are back on the ice
again today at 12:30pm.
On a more sombre note, the field has decreased from 28 to 24 teams as the
Montgomery, Poelman, Tuson, and Dangerfield Teams were eliminated from the
competition. Montgomery, Tuson and Dangerfield played very well and had
real barnburner type games, only to come out on the wrong side. If you were
not there the last two days, you missed an exciting Peolman team that played
a no defence style in that they seemed to either take or give up big ends or
steal like crazy. The Poelman team stole 5 ends in their first 2 games.
If you're not at the Bear Mountain Arena, you are missing out on world-class
curling, right here in Victoria. Come out tomorrow and see who can fill the
remaining 6 qualifying positions.

The ice surface is ready for rocks, with all the rings ropes and sponsor logos in the ice. There have been a lot of people out to help Al, Jim and Swany make this ice surface become what it is, and we thank all of them. Check the Photos Section for some shots of the ice crew doing their stuff.
The Golf Tournament started this morning at Bear Mountain with a good turnout. Participants had a shotgun start at 8:00am and will have a great morning of golf with the Victoria weather finally cooperating. A sunny day with highs around 15, it looks like great golf weather.
The event starts tomorrow at 7:30am with five of the six sheets filled. Lots of Island talent in the first draw such as Montgomery, Tuson, and 2003 BC Champion Dean Joanisse. The fun is about to move into drive, so we look forward to seeing you at this event!!

The
Curling Ice is Almost Ready.
The arena has been in the hands of the ice technicians since late Sunday and
this afternoon the rings were scribed and painted. The lines and dividers
will be in by the end of the day and then the flooding and scraping
begins. Everything looks great for the Thursday morning start. Getting
excited??
